I love Bluesky and appreciate all my followers. Right now I'm struggling whether to delete Facebook. I have family far away that I follow grandchildren with businesses that they started. I deactivated my FB account. This still allows me to use Messenger, which my extended family is active on, but I no longer Ionger have to see the endless scammy ads or Maga nonsense.

I don't miss it.

Do it! I've not regretted it ever. Also, remember that for every person that deletes a Zuck or Elon app and joins bluesky an angel gets it's wings. Not being blasphemous...just thought it was more fitting.

I deleted mine but can still access it if I want/need to. (I haven’t deleted messenger in case that’s the only way someone on there can contact me if they don’t have my number). It’s not a complete delete but I feel lighter

I am never on FB, but can’t bring myself to delete it. There are many people that I only have contact with through there. I should reach out to them individually and find another way to stay connected so I can pull the plug.

Keep it. Stay logged out when not using, that shows ur not an active user 24/7, make sure EVERY setting protects privacy on FB & Messenger. Everyone wants boycotts, and that’s fine, but ur connections r more important. Let those who CAN leave. Also …

I have been struggling with this as well because I'm making a massive move from the US to Europe and I have to sell a lot of things and I would like to keep up with my friends. I'm considering scrubbing my old account that's 15 years old and opening up a new one for very specific things.

I have kept Facebook but keep it hidden in my app library so i can check in oncertain friends and family but i no longer waste hours a day scrolling through the feed. I see what I'm looking for and get out of there. I dont engage in any dialogue on there. It works for me

People on bsky have recommended delete and have given instructions on how to save your info, pictures, etc. FB follows you on every platform bc they have your info. I plan to but hesitate too because of contact with old friends/relatives.

It’s tough. I felt the same way about Twitter. It saved my life during the monster’s first administration but I did have to let it go. The toxicity was too much for me and the algorithm was so bad. You may want to hang onto it for a while just for those family photos.

I also decided to deactivate instead of deleting FB and Insta. That way if policies change in the future I still have my history. People that have chosen to stay on META can just limit time and not click any ads. Don’t let them steal your joy of seeing your grandchildren.

Just do what you can. Every bit counts. I deleted it after the election and then reinstalled for similar reasons, but have seriously limited my engagement. I’m on Bluesky daily and FB only when absolutely necessary. I’ve been on maybe 3 times since November and then immediately off.

Me too. I was off of it for 2 weeks, and I missed a post in my neighborhood group about a dog that was found running loose. The dog was mine. Fortunately, another neighbor saw the post and called me. I don’t know how to fill this gap. I’m also agent for my high school class. This is the struggle.

Download your stuff and delete. I left January 20th when I saw him in the front row at inauguration.
Family and friends text or FaceTime me. You find new ways to keep in touch. Each account there is valuable to Zuck re: advertisers. Don’t help him make more money.
