I don't believe leaving the EU was the mistake everyone is saying it is. But only history will show for sure. Both sides lied on the referendum, so to say we were duped into leaving implies the majority of our population are stupid. I don't believe we are. - ThreadSky

I said credulous not stupid. Those that believed Brexit was good were limited to the extremes of the Tory right, English Nationalists and those railing against posh-boy Cameron directing the. To vote his way. None of which makes for good political decisions. The referendum was advisory after all.

The only 'both sides' to Brexit was financial.
UK leaving EU was just a loony fringe politics idea.
The positive economic benefits were not credible (proven to be absent now).
Negative benefits aided the Brexit cause with the rise of hedge funds & the shorting of stocks, currencies, entire markets.

My hope is that we can ride out the next three years of this idiots control without reducing our standards. I'll be happy not to trade with the US at all. They have nothing we can't do without.

Regardless of belief Re Brexit any UK/US trade deal will not exploit this weakness with 1st preference for US products/services or similar regulation free advantage to keep UK misaligned to EU possibly with mid-long term time constraints.
US probably shouldn't have threatened NATO as opening gambit.
