The difference this time was that I wrote an outline. I've gone way outside the lines, but I had a rough idea of where I was going!

How did you motivate yourself (or even begin to think about) the outline?

I really haven't been able to do anything. A couple of small ideas but I can't even focus long enough to play out a small scene or idea without being overwhelmed by the lack of an overall plan.

1st book was a lot easier!

Book one was about ocean pollution. Book two is about the plight of the pollinators. I knew what I wanted my main character to do, so I formed the story from there. So this book was written from the middle. Take your small idea. What happened before? What happens after? Can it lead to book three?

I suspect that's where my problem is, I don't have a main character. I have historical moments that are fixed, but context is changeable, as are the characters... for book 1 I had fixed history and characters, but the context is what I wrote.

I think I need to settle on characters.

i can relate so much! it’s a journey while still falling in love with the world you’re creating. but once you’re able to get the words out in the chapters, it’s relieving. (until you go over it with your editor. lol!)
