The first Mets game I remember going to at Shea was in June 1980 versus the Giants. Steve Henderson hit a walkoff 3-run HR to win the game. The fans went crazy like the Mets had just won the World Series. I was a Mets fan for life.

Too many to choose from, but the first one that comes to mind is from the second-to-last row of the upper deck when LoDuca tagged out two Dodgers in Game 1 of the 2006 NLDS. Fans went crazy, and I thought the whole stadium would collapse.

My first game I got to see Seaver win but as a 7 year old I was scared of the planes flying over. I also remember skipping school to go to opening day in 1986. Finally, as a Seaver fan, Tom Seaver Day in 1988.

Game 5 of the '73 World Series. We didn't know we were going until about 2PM that afternoon. Had to get the tickets in Brooklyn. We went straight from Lehman College to Brooklyn to Shea. It was cold that night & we weren't dressed appropriately. Wow were we cold!!

Great story, Charley. Last minute for big games is pretty cool. For the first time ever I had a Saturday season plan with my brother. With that I was able to get tickets for the NLCS and the World Series. We went to Games 1 and 2 of Series #LGM #Mets #ticketstubs

First game I ever went to was in 1998. I think it's one of the first that Piazza suited up for us. I also had an amazing time at the very last game at Shea. Everyone was there long after the game ended. We didn't want it to end.

Too many to count, Shea was more then just baseball, it was family memories, childhood friends, etc...but if had to choose, has to be Game 6/'86...when they flashed "Congrats Red Sox"on Diamond Vision for a sec, then the ball went thru Buckner's legs..Screaming, hugging strangers... Surreal, still.

Thanks Raelle for posting. Shea was everything you expressed. Surreal for certain big Mets moments. Pratt’s walk off in ‘99 NLDS & Dykstra’s 2 run homer in 9th to win Game 3 of ‘86 NLCS vs Astros. I was sitting in right field corner field boxes & could see ball just stay fair. Everyone went nuts!

I remember that Dykstra homer like it was yesterday. I can close my eyes & see him running the bases arm raised. I had my Game 6 stub framed & hung it over the crib in the nursery for both my sons. They'll duke it out someday-one for that stub & one for Shea seats. No place will ever be like Shea.

So is it safe to say both your sons of Mets fans? When Dykstra hit home run, I couldn’t see him with his arms raised because crowd was standing up jumping & I couldn’t see over them sitting in lower right field seats. I finally got on seat & could see him going between third & home. Shea was rocking

I am the spawn of a NY Giants fan and a Brooklyn Dodger "Dodgerette." I think before I had a name, I had a tiny Mets hat. So, yes, my sons are Mets fans. In our family, if you rooted/root for any other team, you'd be put up for adoption. Pretty sure both their first words were "Wright," not Mama. 😂

Have had lots of memorable experiences at Shea. Game 3 69 NLCS, 73 NLCS & WS, 1st games at Shea, double header, 2nd game went 23 innings w/triple play. Most surreal? Todd Pratt walkoff in 99 NLDS. Crowd totally silent before exploding upon realizing his hit cleared wall to win game. Stadium shook

Game 6, Game 7, Dykstra home run, Matt Franco Game, first game I went to in 1972 (Seaver vs. Carlton and seeing that green grass for the first time), many Opening Days (Alberto Castillo and Gary Carter stand out). Bobby Jones one hitter. I could go on.

Sept, 24, 1969. Shea Stadium. The Mets clinched the Eastern Division pennant with a 6-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, with Gary Gentry getting a complete game victory. I had beer spilled on my head afterwards. I was 12 years old. It was the greatest day of my life.

I think my mother washed it when we got home that night. Four year later, I was at the '73 clincher (Game 5 against the Reds) and got a piece of infield grass that I saved for years, until it disappeared after one of my moves. Sigh.

I was at Shea for the eighth to last game. They were doing the countdown in the outfield. The Cubs disappointed me, but we mounted a good rally or two and I remember feeling like my body was rolling. It was awesome. This Mainer has only made it to two Mets games in New York and two in DC though.
