The thing about "self-diagnosis" is that if you're an adult there's a lot of stuff that's never getting caught at regular checkups if you don't bring it up yourself. If you've made it to adulthood with undiagnosed ADHD, you're probably not getting help with it unless you ask.

My doctor just laughed & said, "oh, that's not my area."
My friend thought she had insomnia and it wasn’t worth getting checked out. It turns out she hasn’t slept a full night in her whole life. She just thought this is how life is.
The exploration to arrive at a self-diagnosis is often kickstarted, and encouraged by someone who has an "official" diagnosis, because they recognise elements of themselves in someone else.
Then you have to contend with the myriad people on the Internet who will suddenly feel a raging need to shame and discredit you, because they believes themselves entitled to be "the only ones" who were undiagnosed.
It's tough.
Me: "I'm experiencing THIS. Is it because of THAT?"
Dr.: "Let's find out!"
(Although in reality the doctors are usually unwilling to find out)
When he checked my flexibility he was like "you have the best range of motion I have ever seen".
It would take me about 2 years to get my Ehlers-Danlos syndrome diagnoisis.
As it turns out y'all, it is quite unusual to just always be in pain or anguish :)
