Yes, colonies held together by intercellular bridges (beautiful example below: 10.1016/j.ydbio.2011.06.003). However, they usually contain two densely-stained plates, suggesting a permeability barrier that prevents unregulated sharing of cytoplasmic contents. Molecular composition is elusive. 1/2

Our findings indicate that these connections are at least permeable to ions. The observed asynchronous activity within colonies further suggests that there is no open flow of ions between cells, but rather a regulated process. But more work needs to be done on this for sure🤩. 2/2
