LP.8.1.* variants show a steady growth advantage of 2% per day (14% per week) over the dominant XEC.* variants. A crossover looks possible in March.

reading slide 8, it appears to me that the vast majority are descended from JN.1- does that mean the Novavax 2024 vaccine is covering its variants better than the KP.2 vaxxs covering current circulating strains? would it be prudent for a Novavax booster for all?

Yes almost all are descended from JN.1 now, besides XDV.* which is not significant.

On vaccine coverage, while KP.2.* (JN.1.* + FLiRT) is not significant now, it did include some mutations esp F456L which are still very common. So it might be a closer match - quite a lot of overlap with LP.8.1.
