Imo being able to decide who you talk to and who talks to you is a basic function of a social network and if a site lacks those capabilities you have to wonder what it really is supposed to be

🤔 That this is a private space and not a public utility and not a common carrier, notwithstanding, one might generally enjoy a right to say one's piece, but one does not have a right to be Listened.
Twitter still has those controls. All the other places pretend like a person can only have one account and somehow magically cannot see you if you block an account.
Maybe? But all it takes is making a second account. That’s a bit different than breaking through a window or having lock picking equipment. And you still can’t mention or reply on twitter.
The Trumpers can come here, but I have zero desire to humour their b.s. I won't engage and will block if they engage me with their b.s. And I will leave this site too, if the algorithms start jamming the alt right agenda into my feed. I'm done being nice to these idiots.
I just blocked another one that started with the "so you don't want the opposing 'opinions'" b.s. I am fine with alternative opinions, not alternative facts. Some times "both sidesing" just isn't...
Yes I agree, l but I had already cut back on my use of X because it was so toxic. Musk had also tweeked the algorithms so I got deluged with alt right crap and conspiracy b.s. His own comments kept showing up at the top of my feed, even after I blocked him. X has become a Musk Soapbox. No thanks.
What I admire about Trumpers is that when you refuse to argue with them, you leave them arguing with themselves. It’s like their inability to critically think for themselves is lost somewhere in the grips of times passed which they will never get back. Moving forward is detrimental to their health.
Why would MAGA think that their neighbors loved them for voting for a Fascist in the first place? Did they think that this would be like "I voted for Fascism. Here's a bunt cake I made".
I’m from Canada so I’m observing. It seems like blocking = zero tolerance. What constitutes a block and add to a block list? Are they harassing you, disagreeing, or spewing hate or do you just not want the noise of vocal republicans?
It’s what we do in real life - decide who we want to hang with and who we don’t. We should be able to do the same in social media life without being scolded.
But if we dont talk to each other there is no hope. I am angry and cant deal with them in this moment, but we have to find a path to each other or else the country is doomed.
I somewhat agree with you, but it's not brainwashed maga trolls we need to engage with, it's the center right and the center in general.
We need to give them a home without calling them fascists or transphobes or whatever for just repeating what the average right-leaning centrist voter says.

It’s a trick.
Nor was I under the impression that if a person wanted to see my public posts that blocking stopped that person from seeing them.
I don’t like twitter but that isn’t why.
Forced speech is not free speech.
We need to give them a home without calling them fascists or transphobes or whatever for just repeating what the average right-leaning centrist voter says.
Here's my list just from this evening...
