Similar story with my dad growing up, slightly feral, in WWII Glasgow; his appreciation for Classic Hollywood passed on to me. That and glorious BBC 2 Saturday Matinees. Some of the movies I soaked up as a child are still my favourites to this day.

Movies Silently
My dad used to be dropped off at a theater in Burbank with a quarter for admission and snacks, so he saw silents, westerns, serials, etc. So, when we got a VCR, all our movies were things like Robin Hood, Laurel and Hardy, Flash Gordon, etc. I didn't even know I was a cinephile until later.
