I'm a Bond as a contemporary action film series guy. And I think most people who want faithful adaptations of the books haven't read them. Moonraker aside, the best got faithful adaptations at the time, the rest would still need heavy lifting in a new film version.

Though that's the thing with the Bond books, they're entertaining thrillers if you go in viewing them as 70 year old books, but they're also full of stuff that was dated at the time and, as Fleming gets older and grumpier, have Bond moaning about the most old man things possible.

I think I'd be interested in a period Bond thing not for faithfulness to the books necessarily for exactly the reasons you've given, just more that I'm curious to see what a 1950s sent Cold War action film with Bond would be like made with modern sensibilities.

Absolutely this. No real interest in modern Bond, I'm a heathen and would rather just watch Tom Cruise fall out of a plane, but would definitely check out a more pulpy Tinker Tailor type thing.

I have seen that idea being thrown around by everyone, a general assumption Amazon would go there. It could work, if you want to do a streaming show (as I bet they do) and keep it separate from the film's brand, "we're adapting the books from the time they were written" would be a good one
