On this date in 1945 the Red Sox gave tryouts to 3 African-American players, Jackie Robinson, Sam Jethroe and Marvin Williams, they didn’t sign any of them. Because of the racial bigotry of the owner and front office it took 14 more yrs to integrate the team, the last team in MLB to do so.
