i mean i can understand that part, its just that a lot of the time it just kinda feels hollow and cheap in a way that the creator most likely didnt intend for lol
Budding gamedevs and artists need to understand that spriteart is a very time intensive artstyle (and even longer to get right - with all the techniques such as anti-aliasing, sub-pixel animation, dithering, readability, implied detail, etc).
Oofta, yeah. I love spriteart (I should post all the work I've done so far) but I must admit it's the one thing that keeps delaying all my game projects until it never gets done.
Next project will be loose and fast. I'll use Godot with the Block Coding plugin and draw simple Paper Mario-esque art.
Broadly agree with this, but damn, La Mulana uses this for the bosses and it looks Crazy good, goes to show that a good art direction basically overcomes anything
reminder that pixel art is used in indie games as either a cost/time cutting measure, stylization, or to enhance gameplay.
If pixel art is not making your game look better, feel better, and isnt making things easier, it might be best to drop it.
Or when someone makes a👁️ art and tells it to make pixel art but the thing doesn't know how to make pixel art so you get an image that's just a bunch of squares melting together and the person uses it anyway because they don't understand what pixel art is.

What bothers me is that they half-assed it.
not every thing needs 1billion pixels to look good sometimes only 50 pixels and a good story is good enough
It’s like models in a way
idk tho

It's better to just animate chunky graphics.
