I did my degree at Sussex. I still love the architecture. I prefer it to universities from a similar era that I've worked on subsequently. Our course director told us that the big talk concrete pillars at the front of Arts A were a gibbet for hanging plagiarising undergrads from.

Had to look it up - it's very dramatic! I like it too. This is my alma mater, courtesy of Basil Spence. I was lucky to be there when the campus was much more open than it is now. Last time I visited, the moat was dry and rubbish strewn, but apparently it's been cleaned and refilled recently.

Yeah, but sometimes it's just nice to be understood! My PhD is technically a DPhil, but I never use the term because no-one around me would know what I was on about. PhD is a sensible sub for twitter - both short for the same thing, after all.

Yes, pretty, and a welcome 2 secs reprieve from the world but, PhD students like me & other postgrads with student loans are being shafted by the fees increase: our loan is fixed at the beginning and never increases. It already doesn't cover the full amount... PS: foxes on Bristol campus too...
