It's the fishing policies that traditionally have been the problem for the North Atlantics. It's their major source of income, and understandably problematic if they have to share their fishing grounds with the Portuguese and Spanish fishing industry, who has completely emptied their own waters.

I hope they do join the EU, and I would hope that would nudge the UK into rejoining. But I fear it would reinforce the “bUt teh UK iS diFfeRenT” mentality that is so prevalent here. 🙄

The Fishing Industry complex, which is decidedly anti-EU owns the largest newspaper here. A former PM -which is pro-Trump- has largely discredited the paper, as a wast majority of the population is not in that frame of thinking, blessedly.
