Well, given that he was the governor of the BoE during Brexit which he was against, I suspect he'll be looking more towards the EU than the UK.

And given how much support Starmer has shown towards Canada (like: virtually none), I suspect the Commonwealth won't be high on the list either.

Personally, I want to see Canada *join* the EU (we do have a common land border with Denmark on Hans Island).

But *any* stronger affiliation with the EU just makes sense.

Even EFTA/EEA or Swiss model would be fine.

This isn't a problem in any scenario because regardless of whether CETA evolves into an EFTA+Swiss or EFTA+EEA like model or even full membership (which I think unlikely at least for now) Canada would never join Schengen since barring Hans Island there's no land border w/ the EU/Schengen.

I was mainly thinking about people but I fail to see your point. There is no land border between continental Europe and Canada, thus nothing would change, even w/ Canada in EFTA/EEA. People and freight would still be checked upon entry to mainland Europe.
