I got a false copyright takedown notice on a YouTube video, is there no way to counter it until after the video is deleted? Right now it's showing "delete video" as the only action I can take. Is there a screenshot of the original communication? Takedown notifications just take down the video. They don't require the user to delete the video. So I'm wondering if the other person sent one of the "7 day notices" in the copyright match tool or something

Ok, interesting. This isn't the takedown notice (not yet). It's a 7 day advance notice. So you can wait 7 days for the actual takedown to apply and then be able to counter notify.

What is strange is 7 day warnings are part of YouTube's Copyright Match Tool, which is extra-legal.

That generally requires a video to have matched video content to previously uploaded content. (At least when copyright match tool first launched, it only applied to visual content, not audio.)

Update: ok, so it looks like YouTube does allow anyone submitting a takedown to "schedule" the takedown for 7 days, so I guess that's a thing. Overall, though, the "schedule" notice is not the takedown itself. You get 7 more days to think about how to respond before anything really happens

Nothing has matched as far as I know. Seems strange to me that you can't counter it until after it gets taken down, but I guess that's just part of the process. I'll just have to be patient 😅
