I am hoping that we can have an election without having to engage with the US. The election will have enough dirt and manipulation without that. Then we need to extricate ourselves from the multitude of relationships between the countries. If LNP win we don't have a hope of retaining sovereignty.

I don't for a moment doubt it; I just hope (perhaps naively) that we are not totally swamped with Trump's posturing to the exclusion of any local debate. Like you, I would like to know more, and would like to see more definitive positioning re the US. I do hope that will come after an LNP defeat.

Given the unpredictable situation in the US, it would be hard to have a definite plan, Anything could happen. We need to have v good intelligence on what is the true state of play. Ought keep options open whilst seeking out alternatives. However when the time is right, maybe take a few steps away?

Yes, but Australia is also a large ally to Canada, and there are even talks of tightening that alliance further with CANZUK, as you might know. It's very strange for Australia to have said nothing as of yet, especially since our militaries are intertwined

Canada worked with the US for decades to set up systems that would be efficient for both countries. All gone in an afternoon.

Australia should be scrambling to make alternative arrangements for all US agreements.
