Dean Erwin Chemerinsky of UC Berkeley Law says he is trying to get a letter signed by other law school deans to call on law firms not to buckle under threats from the Trump administration.

He says it has been very hard to get many to sign.

I think the law school deans are making the same mistake as many others are and are hoping they can ride it out (with the courts taking the edge off the worst of the Trump excesses) until the 2026 midterms, and then a new Democratic congress that will rein them in.

I retired from the practice of law in 1996. I am extremely ashamed of the lack of courage, character, and honor exhibited by the legal community (law firms) thus far. In my worst nightmares I would not have believed this could happen.

Institutions need to do the exact same thing this administration is doing and flood the zone. Come out day by day, hour by hour, in support of your common cause. Give them too many targets to strike back at.

Keep attacking what their messaging while standing up for what is right.
