So yesterday I saw the documentary series about the history of Amsterdam and it sorta kinda makes me wish I grew up in the 60s-80s time period

Growing up seeing the All-American Racers Eagle, the Alfa Tipo 33, the GT40. There's so much to name here that either looks good, had fascinating engineering or was a glorious combination of both

Unfortunately, this era also saw a LOT of death and life-changing injuries

Jim Clark, the marshall hit by Tom Pryce and of course Tom himself, De Angelis. Roger Williamson and Jo Schlesser incinerated in their cars with no hope of getting out.

It must have been horrendous to read all this in the magazines. There was barely any TV coverage

The messages you did receive on the news probably mentioned a driver death, maybe a major historic event but that was about it.

If you were lucky you had some form of motorsports summary program on the TV.

The lack of moving images is something I hate to think about to be honest

So, in conclusion, much like the original thread, perhaps merge both era's then?

Give us back the diverse cars, the new innovations and the obscure small racing team barely getting by, but do so with modern safety standards and media coverage.

More open technical rulesets should do the trick

As for the sporting side, back in day you didn't put on a move with a small chance of succeeding for fear of your own life, or that of a competitor

The modern version of course is the penalty system, but I'm not the first one to say that driver mentality and circuit construction aren't helping

I'm honestly in favor of bringing back the drive through, stop go, disqualification and race ban as more common occurances, especially with repeat offenses of the same rule.

I think that about covers that.
