Can you explain the particular use of perceptual here? It seems the phenomena is an affectual feeling, relational in some way rather than representational, though I assume it can play a role. It reminds me of those with OCD and the feeling of contamination despite rational awareness of the opposite

I guess 'perceptual' because hagioptasia is about seeing specialness before emotions kick in - like how beauty feels immediate.
Yes, similar to OCD contamination in that it feels real despite knowing it’s not, but hagioptasia is usually a positive experience

Is it seeing or is it felt? Can we separate the feeling from the catalyzing sight? That is, can we allow that affect (feeling) occurs before and separate from emotions and is separate from sensory experience? There is always murkiness with these studies because of certain starting assumptions.
