A friend suggested that next month Trump will use his awesome tariff powers to get U.S. Customs agents placed *inside* Canadian airports and, wow, if Trump succeeds in pulling that off, I'll be impressed.

Yes, I always roll my eyes when I hear about flights of illegal aliens coming from Canada and landing at US airports. You cannot get on a plane to fly from Canada to the US without being interviewed by CBP _in Canada_ before you get on the plane.

Just checked the CBP list and Victoria has recently been added according to one page (but not to another.) Flights from smaller airports will require clearance on arrival in the US. Toronto Billy Bishop (a/k/a "City", "Island", or "Raccoon" (heh) will get preclearance later in 2025.

I believe this leaves Quebec City as the largest Canadian airport without US preclearance, although apparently the US Congress authorized YQB be added way back in 2016, followed by Regina and then a couple of the Maritimes capitals. After Regina, most of the US flights are seasonal to Orlando.

American immigration officers have been in Canadian airports for as long as I can remember. The USA immigration agents made me eat my Calgary Peter's cheeseburger in the airport before I crossed over into America in the Calgary international airport. That was decades ago

Yep, flying out of Toronto, we had to consider customs rules about bringing food onto the plane because we were going to be under US auspices after going through US customs in—wait for it—the Toronto airport.

I like Canada customs officers. I flew from Phila. to Toronto a week after 9/11 - me, 1 other passenger and 2 air marshals. After deplaning the Canadian officer looked me over and said welcome to Canada, no terrorist would carry that handbag. :)
