A page on the Defense Department’s website celebrated Pfc. Ira Hayes, a Pima Indian who was one of the six Marines photographed hoisting a U.S. flag at Iwo Jima in 1945.

The page, along with many others about minority service members, has now been erased.

I've had this song stuck in my head since I read about this. It really isn't a good song. Dylan even included it on his intentionally bad album, "Dylan." This is how I know who Ira Hayes was though, so I guess it served its purpose.

Side note: Dylan didn't have anything to do with the "Dylan" album. It was a collection of outtakes and rehearsals that Columbia threw together when he temporarily jumped ship to another label. He never really intended that recording to come out at all.
