Children also are the property of men. Children have no choice of their name and typically are given their father's name. There are exceptions, of course. I think people should be able to choose their name. Our naming practice is a subtle way to indoctrinate patriarchy into the population.

I have used my birth surname-spouse surname for 40 yrs. A couple yrs ago I had to get a new SS card. I have used the hyphenated surname to file taxes with no issues since our marriage.
