Interesting. Would like some more data. I don't doubt that there is a factor there, though the age trend is consistent across many countries, including those that weren't involved in WW1.

If the mortality ends up following that pattern, the silver lining is that society will take this pandemic much more seriously even with Covid fatigue, and act appropriately.
Don’t discount the power of propaganda when you predict how society will treat the next pandemic. We have a potential head of HHS who’s on record saying he wants to give infectious disease an 8 year break and an incoming president who suggested using light and bleach to deal with our last pandemic.
I don’t think that it’s possible to predict what overall reactions would be like without witnessing the economic impact, and the expectations of said impact. That would likely depend on a lot more factors in highly connected systems than just the mortality per cohort. It‘s fun to speculate, though.
