So Slaf vs. Shane Wright was basically no contest last night. Wright was nearly invisible in 10 minutes on the ice, Juraj Slafkovsky was dominant in a game the Habs should have won. Big body, big and accurate shot, confidence growing.

What a player he is going to be.

I really like that when asked if he felt good about his recent play he said no because he should've been playing like this all year. I'm really hoping he remembers this over the summer and comes into game 1 next year playing like he is now
I hope so. He just needs a full season of this and he's on his way.
I also think Slafkovsky is hardwired to play in Montreal. He has not shied away in the face of criticism or let benching get him down. He's learned from his experiences.
Yes. He doesn't get that hangdog look like he wants out of town or start getting mouthy and entitled like KK.
Who is KK? :)
and Hughes was just learning on the job at that point...sometimes you just go with the gut feeling
Watching all the young talent develop is quite fun. That top line is dominant, Hutson is amazing and Demidov next year? Good times coming.
Hope so.
Quite impressive for a 20 year old.

Soon a full season of this.
It may not happen this year, but I am confident Big Slaf is gonna be a dominant player in playoffs
People seem to ignore the fact that it wasn't just the Habs that passed him over, NJ and Arizona did as well.
Habs passed over Lane Hutson 3 times.

What’s your point?
Jack's post is about people complaining that the Habs did not take the media's consensus #1 pick. My point is that the Habs were not the only team that took a pass on the media's consensus #1 pick.
Not sure how that relates to Hutson.
It relates to the point of passing over someone makes it mean something.

I would never have taken Slaf. For me a number 1 pick should only be used on a #1C or a #1D. Never on a winger unless they are generational (Ovi, Kane etc)
You can’t get #1 C or D without drafting. Wingers are everywhere
Honestly, I can't believe people are still picking on Slafkovsky.

I give up. This fan base...
Agree 💯 % with you Jack. That year’s draft was not a very good year. But having said that (I wanted Wright as many fans did), Slafkovsky is showing to be the best player available that year. Happy now that they did pick him instead of Cooley and Wright. He’s gonna be a stud power forward imho.
Please don’t give up unfortunately some fans are stuck in the past.
I’m not picking on him, just explaining how I see the drafts.

He’s turning 21, you can’t really judge his final career path until 23-24 years old. He’s got the time, and will get the opportunity to figure it all out.
Wow. That's pretty doctrinaire.
Exactly. If not drafting Wright was such a colossal blunder he would have gone 2nd, not drop to 4th.
Watching him (Wright) actually glare at the Habs draft table when he was picked at #4 just made me think, man,we dodged a bullet.
That glare told me he was told something that didn’t happen.

That was a look of betrayal
Same can be said for Demidov?

People read too much into the reasons when players fall in the draft for whatever reasons
Demidov fell for pretty much the same reason Michkov fell - Russia. After they passed on Michkov I thought the Habs might go the same way and draft Iginla, which might have led to a fan revolt.
Demidov went pretty much where expected though, most people had him 3 to 5. He should have been 2.
Shane’s body language on draft night never sat well with me and due to that, I honestly could never pull for him to be successful. His time in the NHL reflects his body language, so do not feel bad for him.
Came across as an entitled brat. Same in some of the interviews before the draft.
It certainly reinforces faith in the judgement and development of talent by the Montreal management. Good days ahead in Montreal in an otherwise dark world
I actually want Wright to do well but he was not visible in that game. Slaf, was great
And anybody that disagrees with this should go on tsn's website and listen to what Ray Ferraro has to say about Slafkovsky after last night's game.
Agreed. I didn’t want to say anything about asking if Wright was even playing last night because that has a way of biting me in the ass and they guy would have scored the game winner. But really? How can anyone watch that game and not think Kent made the right choice?
