That's a rough one... I guess I'd let the person know in private, and hope they reconsider commissioning said artist again. Though I haven't experienced anything of the sorts myself, kinda cautious when it comes to reaching out to new people, partly because of stuff like this...

You quietly let that Internet pal specifically know what happened to you. And you let your pal decide on his/her/their own how they feel about said artist from that point forward and if they should continue doing business with them.

The entire furry art community is based on trust, if the artist built his reputation just to take the money and run away when he thinks he can get away with I'd like very much to know who these people are so I can avoid them.

I know right, I'd like to know the same :/ They were all people who seemed to be well on social media and had done multiple coms. Some of them had sent me drafts, but in the end never finished it? I bumped the matter once, twice, thrice, then give up after several months of no reply

Had situations where stuff I commissioned just got stuck for a year in the artist's work pipeline because of organization issues and I wasn't the type to request updates; stuff like that can happen for personal issues or whatever else is going on.

But if they're actively working on new stuff and actively ignoring you then thats something completely different; Or if they are actively online shitposting and can't be arsed to give you a small situation update thats disrespectful as hell.

One of them took and share many commissions since (mine was like, 4 or 5 years ago or something but never got done), and another one stopped working on my commission last year and have sure been active on their social media.

I know at least 3 artists who did that to me, never replying to any of my requests for news, and seeing their works still being shared around pisses me off

If someone has scammed you, you are totally allowed to call them out! But assuming your friend didn't know when getting their own art done, that may be something you want to post on your page versus replying to them or DMing them. I appreciate seeing bewares, it helps be cautious as a commissioner.

To be honest, I hesitated using the word "scam" - I paid for a commission, they began the work on it and sent drafts, I sent feedback and then at some point they stopped replying to me? And never finished it? Idk how to call it, but that still hurts and definitely betrays the trust...

I would call that a scam! Or at least bad practice. If you paid for art and never got a finished product with no communication, that's not fair to you :0

I def understand the hurt, I've been ghosted a few times after paying for art and it sucks! I'm sorry you gotta deal with it.
