The article focuses on the conservative right appropriating the "crunchie" (or back to nature) movement and how left leaning crunchies have a hard time navigating this. It fails to emphasize that this kind of romantic, naturalist discourse has historically been part of movements like Nazism.

To me, “eco” should only apply to movements with a genuinely eco-centric world view, where natures interests take priority. That doesn’t apply to racist movements abusing environmental arguments for anti-immigration or anti-diversity reasons.

I think it’s important to be clear with language so that we know when the call is coming from inside the house. See also: T*RF. They’re not feminists in my book, but we should understand their origins within feminist movements.

A lot of hippie types in my broader circles (who I would have assumed progressive) have bought into a lot of right wing conspiracy theories and talking points.

To me, crunchy people have always seemed apolitical to NIMBY liberals who are liberal so long as it cost them nothing.

While things are often classed as right, left or center, a good third of Americans are not even on the political spectrum.

So, these aren’t all the same individuals I’m referring to. As for the right-wing tech bros and others advocating for having more kids, that’s for white people. A lot of that is motivated by a fear of “replacement.” It’s a manifestation of white supremacy.

I was more thinking about the crunchies that overlap that. Not all great replacement believers are tech bros. And the tradwives rely on tech to get their message out. Tradwifery seems to align with 'quiver-full' type movements, which don't beleive in overpopulation

I do think there is room for environmental movements that don’t seek to solve all society’s problems and so drawing from both political right and left may be important for future success. Endangered Species Act due to Republicans trying to court young voters, single issue groups must court many.

I think a lot of it is just glorifying the “back to nature” aspects of TikTok videos uncritically, and not even recognizing trad wife content for what it is, who it’s accessible for, etc.

Isn't the underlying message of trad wife as a "back to nature" message that families need an unpaid laborer (who is dependent/ not looked upon or treated as an equal) in the household to live that way?
But I guess that's where the "uncritically" part comes in...

I think there’s also a lot of tradwife adjacent content that people don’t realize is that. It’s like a gateway to tradwife. Which I suppose all recruitment efforts strive to be—non-obvious and accessible.
