While it isn't SUPER far back, I've been having a fun time checking out Azumanga Daioh for the first time recently; its filled with a suprising amount of heart and you can definitely tell shows like K-On! got their inspiration from it

Oldtakus can be some of the most annoying people to see post cause of how they just don't wanna engage in anything past their personal golden age without complaining about how different the same genre is compared to what they watched. They don't have the desired or drive to try new stuff

FYI/ aka...this is why I always talk about / advocate for reading more modern jump series (or newer manga series period), so you don't risk turning into those people. There's so much stuff for any interest you're bound to find something you like if you take the time to LOOK for something

The fact is..if a series looks good...check it out. Series age shouldn't matter if the topic interests you give it a shot you may find something new.
