The ESB need to improve communication with customers in events like this - we have electricity back thankfully but suffering frequent random cuts (assuming these are related to pole replacement) with zero notice or explanation. Considering profits made in recent years this is unacceptable.

So, I'm more of the opinion that it's the private energy companies (the middlemen between consumers and ESB Networks) who need to improve their communication. I've heard nothing from my provider since the storm. They're the ones I pay, not ESB Networks.

(We should renationalise electricity supply.)

Interesting it certainly needs improvement - right now we get electricity fault updates from ESB Networks and it has been seriously lacking. ESB Networks profits are very healthy and communication service is not. Hopefully this event will lead to improvement in this regard

We heard *nothing* from local government in the aftermath of #StormÉowyn:

- No emergency phone messages / text alerts
- No emergency shelters
- No emergency radio channel
- No information
(We had no phone or internet coverage)

Local communities were left to their own devices, full stop.

After this local communities should be resourced with emergency hub equipment and plans. Government really let people down during this storm and the snow too.

There has been a huge amount of internal (temporary) displacement from the storm:

People moving in with friends & family who have power, or staying in hotels and AirBnBs. (€€€)

There was a massive need for temporary shelter, but none was provided by local government. People fended for themselves.

A big fear I have is the lurch to the right that might come after this: Populist politicians whispering sweet nothings about turf, coal, and diesel in the ears of people who were frozen and hungry this past week. And when that messaging takes roots, FF and FG will simply chase those votes.

The lack of communication was shocking. No radio updates for days, and ads for https://powercheck.ie were useless without internet. We needed bulletins on roadblocks, power status, info on where to get water etc but we got nothing!

Yeah it was very poor. No figureheads from local or national government. Local radio stations filled the information gap in a major way, but that isn't good enough. There should have been a 24/7 emergency radio broadcast. I could barely get info about the storm that was expected after Éowyn.
