I know a lot of people criticize children being more stuck on tech than reading books or playing outside these days, but as a child of both of these worlds I think we spend too much time forgetting that change is nature.
attention spans have disappeared and the love for books has become exctinct it seems. i just read an article about how gen a/z thinks they have no time for books and they are boring. once, i got into an argument about books. they said it was an elitist activity...
oh i have no doubts about that. but i was concerned 30 years ago when they said that reading was an elitist activity. there mat be communities, but how popular are they? for me, i love the tactile feeling and smell of walking into a library.
The communities are pretty popular, at least where I am. My university had a really prominent and amazing book club. In Boston, the city libraries also hold their own book clubs and events that are free to attend. Online book communities are also thriving, though they tend to become genre niches.
However, libraries are under threat, at least in the US with everything that is going on. City libraries still get a funding, but not enough. Books are being banned left and right. I hate the war on knowledge and information.
But as always, humans are curious, and humans are resilient.
Not sure I agree. It really depends what the kid is watching. If it's David Attenborough nature documentaries then that is mind expanding, mesmerising and beautiful.
I was explaining to a coworker who has young children that he wants to get them reading. I pointed out how kids books have few words and many pictures. That’s what sets up the brains ability to generate entire Universes in their young minds once the the books move to mostly words and few pictures
I escaped the video gaming and read instead. I know very little about gaming but I can tell you how that hurricane destroyed Galveston and it was because men from the US refused to believe weather people in Cuba. The US killed Galveston.
Sadly it is hard to convince the student's parents the value of reading. Especially in the younger ages. They want their child educated, just many do not want to help do their part.

Sadly too many parents either can’t/wont for whatever reason.
You that’s true as heck.
I'm a Spider Robinson fan myself.
Hence...
