The problem with this is that someone could register a domain very similar to yours - in your case, it’s not even your actual name, just as mine isn’t - making it look just as real as yours is. They do need a better system of verification.

No one else can use your domain because you have to add a record to your DNS. Only you or your webmaster can do that.

It’s called typosquatting. Major companies protect against it by registering lots of possible misspellings of their domain. But individuals can’t afford that.
