One thing that has gotten to me about excessive nostalgia is how it is coming from people who weren't even alive during those time periods. I see so many people who weren't even born yet in the 50s wanting to return to whatever they think that decade was like.

Here’s the thing about nostalgia. Most are remembering or reminiscing about a childhood where their needs and wants were more than adequately addressed by adults. They are clueless as to how difficult it was for adults to provide for them during that time.

And again, sometimes it goes beyond that. People are being nostalgic for time periods where they weren't even alive yet. It's amazing how many people born after the 70s want us to return to the 1950s or earlier.

And, in regard to 50s nostalgia, these people are clearly basing their idea of what the 50s was like on TV programs from that period, which always gave an idealized vision of life back then that was nothing like the reality.
