That sound you heard was me breathing a sigh of relief that any other movie beside Emilia Perez won best picture. Still sad I had to see Mick Jagger give it Best Song but whatever…

Cisgender nonsense indeed. Glad it got mostly snubbed, though I do have the sneaking feeling it was always destined to be one of those films that racks up a ton of nominations and wins practically none of them.
I still think there was a lot of rigging when it came to that film. You cannot tell me that film was nominated for 13 AWARDS, and it's racist, transphobic, an awful musical, and has an awful story that's a complete mess.
This is a huge reason why I hate award shows.
Mick Jagger... a rampant creep statutory rapist and an extremely unnecessarily long homage to classic old school misogynist James Bond for some random ass reason because Amazon bought the IP I guess?
Unrelated, but i was happy to see you here. I found you re: Trek, but you e taught me so much and expanded my perspective. Before I retired, I felt that your work enabled me to have more positive and supportive interactions with my public library patrons.
Yeah, but a movie starring actors who actively support Kremlin in its efforts genocide of Ukrainians (i.e. by starring in Kremlin propaganda films) still won... And in the wake of what's recently happened at the White House nontheless. So... 🤢
Still annoys me that it was likely one trans woman being super shitty and racist that ruined Emilia Perez’s Best Picture chances, and not the fact that it’s a racist and transphobic film in the first place…
I still can't believe it was nominated for best screenplay when it had very basic Spanish translation errors. The kind that would get me a C- in high school Spanish class.
I think the through process for many of the viters was soemthing aling the lines of ”a movie abaout a transgender mexican? this should send a message to Trump” with little regard to the actual content of the movie.
But that would require people actually, you know, listening to trans people generally instead of letting cis people do their favorite thing - hate on trans women while getting to tell trans people what they think is good for us.
For what it's worth, when Screen Junkies did their Honest Trailer for The Oscars, they brought up how ISTTVG and The People's Joker were better movies.
Agreed but it's unfortunately not surprising. These are the same people who like to design disability aids without consulting the disabled and then are surprised when the #1 complaint is still not addressed and no one uses it. They lean hard into the, "I'm dumb & don't want to change" part of it all
And the fact that they could save face with the Israel lobby by giving the award to a Zionist misogynist producer, Sean Baker. Anora had so many issues.

I did watch the Mexican parody of it on youtube instead.

She talks about the narrative the film presents:
“El hombre moreno que es malo antes, ahora es buena como mujer blanca”
"The brown man who was bad before now is a good white woman"
But yeah, I'm glad the fool couldn't hide their nature and ruined its chances.
It would have to be the Greek mythic story of Iphis and Ianthe.
Iphis was raised to be a boy, falls in love with Ianthe, the goddesses (Juno, Venus, Isis) take pity and turn Iphis into a man.
Or received the most pleasure in the sex act.
