One step of these, we got our heater setup with a plug and an outlet so it could be powered via the generator.
Another step was getting batteries. I have almost 5KW of LiFePo4 batteries. Enough to power the internet through the outage, run appliances, and then top off from the generator as-needed.

NORMALLY the generator would take an hour to move and setup. Not this time. It was already outside in its shed. All I had to do was run an extension cable to the heater, pull-start it, and close the shed.
I got a new gas can, it's got a spout/hose on the bottom and a little trigger on top. Just set it above the tank, point the hose down.
There's some pride in that. Powered the heater and used the batteries for computers and things.
And it was worth it. He can't complain.
And dad is now willing to get the whole-house hook up/transfer-switch arrangement. Even wants to buy a bigger generator.
