What is up in the air is when a capable quantum computer might be available that could compromise today's encryption. It is probably years in the future, and might not my lifetime. It is difficult to determine the security reality through all of the smoke.

Wow! As I digest this, I consider it in concert with the current state of our government, the global temperature towards the U.S., and the expectation of not being able to afford food. But at this point, Q-Day is just another thing. Hard not to just start planning an exodus to a much simpler life.

@wired would need at least 500 qbits “stable”. Willow is only 100 qbits of which only 46 is found to be stable. At some point yes. But not around the corner. Meantime post quantum algorithms are being created and tested.

What are the odds that something like this has already happened, and that's the reason why so many are capitulating to Trump et al? I hate to come across all conspiracy theorist, but it doesn't make sense for so many to bend the knee so quickly without having something held over their head.

Agreed! The whole thing is just surreal. I don’t think there are actual conspiracy theories anymore. All of the most terrifying scenarios are being reported, well in places. Not the news obviously. As we swing back to your point. The Press Intern dissolved the integrity of the Free Press in weeks.

I was just at the gym listening to Michio Kaku talking about this on @neildegrassetyson.com 's @startalkradio.bsky.social. It's an episode from May 2024, and they touch on the possibility that all your encryption is just... Gone.
