Not sure. I seem to recall a time, early in the ereader timeline, when indie bookstores sold ebooks. Now that the technology has matured & has a solid base among readers, it might be time to try again

Looking quickly, they can't be read on e-ink devices. That's probably a fatal flaw right there.

E-ink devices? Do you mean like a Paperwhite? You can read kobo books on them. You just have to reformat it in calibre
