It's far from the worst thing to have happened so far in 2025, but I'm still kind of angry that, after more than four decades of loving Star Trek, my first experience watching Trek media in the glory of 4K resolution was "Section 31"

I'm not a fan of how much water the franchise wants to carry for the genocidal tyrant version of her.... but honestly I kinda felt like, despite being the main character, she barely had any real presence in the movie
I really liked Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks and season 3 of Picard, and watching this movie was my first reminder of '90s Star Trek Oversaturation Syndrome
i think it would have made a much better series and I think Star Trek should be taken away from Alex (REVENGE! SUPER WEAPON! MAGIC SPACE HOLE!) Kurtzman
I recently discovered that Kurtzman wrote Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, an unbelievably stupid movie from my childhood that also made a bajillion dollars, and ever since then his entire career has made sense to me.
The fact that you referred to that as a childhood movie made me feel a million years old. I saw the original Transformers Animated movie when it came out.
Happens to us all. I tried talking to my little brother (10 years younger than me) about the Star Wars prequels I watched as a little kid and he called them "old movies"
I highly highly recommend the new 4K version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture: Directors Edition on Paramount Plus. Especially if THC Edibles are legal in your state.
They can still run the franchise so much further into the ground. Never doubt that. Hope they step away and let someone who actually gets Trek to make a new show when they're ready and not because they need another series.
Lol that's what I thought after Discovery. And Picard Season 1. And Picard Season 2. Every time I think Alex Kurtzman has hit rock bottom, the man proves me wrong.
Lower Decks is the only recent Trek that has even been slightly aware of what GR wanted the Trek world to represent. It's infuriating, and I am just going to sit over here watching DS9 while I pretend none of this other trash exists.
Section 31 as a concept is like the Borg. Used sparingly they remain mysterious (31) and intimidating (Borg). Used too often and they become boring and expected.
31 already had a full season in Discovery, and was not secretive.
And the Borg have become as corny and ”threatening” as the Daleks.
It's the single worst thing ever to bear the name Star Trek, and I include Spock's Brain, Threshold, Sub Rosa, Code of Honor, every episode of the Animated Series and the Official Star Trek Helmet (Space Fun Helmet) in that.
It's incredibly boring, honestly. It's one of those movies that is incessantly loud, hyperactive, and edited like YouTube poop, so there's no chance to connect with the setting/characters/plot/action. I expected to hate it, but it was just... too noisily pointless to evoke that strong an emotion
I've never fallen asleep during a Trek movie or series. In fact I usually rewatch anything new very quickly (yes I'm a freak). Not even sure I'll bother to finish this one.
Been consuming Trek for 45 years. If I could choose one franchise for a desert island, it would be Trek. I've enjoyed all of it and fell totally in love with much of it. I fell asleep during Section 31 and may not re-watch.

It's considered perhaps the worse ST movie. Top three if not.
May I suggest some Star Trek: Lower Decks to wash out the taste. Stick with that show and you'll be loving it in no time.
5 can at least be said to be Star Trek.
31 already had a full season in Discovery, and was not secretive.
And the Borg have become as corny and ”threatening” as the Daleks.
Shoot maybe I need to get in here, for the science of it all.
