I dont think you're alone with these criticisms. And I share your sadness. Bioware used to be the GOLD standard when it came to narratives in rpgs. I can see a lot of effort went into the games presentation, but it's a bit of a trend that games sacrifice overall quality for fidelity lately.

Yeah, same, I played a couple of hours, and it really wasn't for me. The story and dialogue felt really 'off' like a really low-budget 80s soap opera 😅
