I don't know all the details, but he said it was a lot of research and learning the hard way. He used pine to save on the cost, but it sagged; he wished he'd used a hardwood with a higher MOE, like white oak. Had to build the doors twice, as the first just didn't line up. Things like that.

The closet inside is where we store most of our board games and TTRPG materials!

Spouse keeps asking how it's a secret door if I tell everyone about it. 🤔 But what's the point of having it if I don't‽ 😁

There's a lock hidden in the boxed set of books (because of course there is 😆). The magnet we used is so strong the door will never open if it's in place. A simple twist, and it's unlocked (although there's still a friction latch to ensure it doesn't just swing open when it shouldn't).

When my college friend/brother-in-law got into woodworking, spouse had the idea to have him make it for me as a gift. We just paid him for materials, so it was cheaper than it might have otherwise been! 😬
