So I don’t text people at 3am. Sometimes they don’t like that. But sometimes information needs to be delivered, and I’d like to sleep when I get home, not worry about sending messages.

There's already solutions for that issue, entirely on the receiver's end, so just send the message whenever.

it's not rude in the slightest. You can't miss these settings these days, and on many phones they're on by default.
Just let people control when they receive notifications, you don't have to make presumptions and decide for them.
