Citizenship is checked well before Election Day in different ways. Demanding people prove what the government already knows is not about election integrity, it’s pure voter suppression.

I am tired of seeing this framed as women who changed their name due to marriage not having a birth certificate that matches their current name…people do not change their name on their birth certificate when they marry, it reflects their name at
birth, so does it just mean they will need a passport?
Jenn, slow down and think for a sec. Woman changes her name, so it doesn't match her birth certificate. SAVE requires that her name match the birth certificate. It doesn't. So she can't vote. It's voter suppression.
It's not "framed" - that's exactly what is happening.
The proposal is horrible for a ton of reasons, but I don’t think this is likely one of them. Getting a certified copy of a marriage certificate or name change judgment (which is likely allowable) is a pointless barrier of time and money to voting, but it’s not an automatic disenfranchisement.
You sure seem to know exactly what is in the bill and what the intent is, considering members of MAGA have said women either shouldn't vote, or shouldn't vote differently from their husbands.
In Ohio, if a voter’s name on their identification isn’t an acceptable match to the name on the voter rolls, and they’ve changed their name, they have to show a certified copy of the entry changing their name or a certified copy of their marriage certificate.
Not “just”, as that in itself would be an onerous requirement, but people don’t have an option to update their birth certificate, it’s only one of the various forms of documentation used to establish your identity for different purposes
Not everyone has a passport. /Getting/ a new passport can cost most of $200.
SAVE disenfranchises poor people too, because a birth certificate's a lot easier to get and doesn't require choosing between voting or having decent (or any) food, rent. Or transpo costs (add those to passport cost).

The people behind this WANT that level of cruelty and disenfranchisement. It's literally part of the point.
