Moxy's backstory as a character is that he is supposed to be a cartoon character that was never quite good enough of an actor to get into any cartoons. Eventually he ended up employed by the Cartoon Network, as a janitor.

But Moxy decided to take fate into his own hands and created a bootleg broadcasting station in a Cartoon Network broom closet so he could take over the Cartoon Network airwaves and air his own pirate TV program where he shows off his favorite cartoons and appears in skits in between

Was he related to those "Cartoons That Never Made It" interstitials? Those were some of the funniest things I ever saw on Cartoon Network and the day I found them on YouTube was one of the best days ever. My fave was "Salt 'n Slug" 🤣

I know exactly what you are talking about, but no Moxy was his own thing and had a lot more going on. There was even a relatively brief period of a few months when Moxy was considered Cartoon Network's mascot

Behind the scenes Moxy was an expensive CGI motion capture digital puppet, and, if almost a self fulfilling prophecy willed to existence by Moxy's personal failures in the show itself, his cartoon vastly underperformed.

The Moxy Show hasn't aired since the mid 90s, and a majority of the series hasn't been publicly archived, meaning it's lost media. Out of the 24 episodes of the series belived to exist, 4 have been archived (and one of them is in Spanish)

The only time Moxy has been seen since he was scrubbed from the Cartoon Network website in 2001 (including a epilogue webcomic that was not properly archived on the Wayback Machine save for one panel) has been in Ok KO Crossover Nexus

The end result is a sort of meta narrative of a character who only wanted attention he couldn't get, who ended up becoming almost completely forgotten.

Great you’re putting a spotlight on it! And props to Bobcat Goldthwait for performing Moxy. Remember being blown away seeing the production setup. Nothing like it. Still reverberates today in AI motion transfer and digital puppeteering now available via an app.

I feel like a lot of people, both then and today, take the level of technical achievement that went into The Moxy Show for granted.

The Moxy Pirate Show is the kinda thing that should be archived by universities and studied acedemicly, instead it's just a Cartoon Network oddity few remember

Like it genuinely surprises me the Cartoon Network, Animation History, and Lost Media communities all are largely disinterested in Moxy, given how interesting everything about the series seems to be the more and more I look into it.

Like if I shut up about it almost nobody is talking about it
