It always was a democracy. We the people lost sight of what that meant and needed to mean. We forgot the “Government by the people” part and relied the “for the people” part. We (collective we) forgot that for democracy to work, we have a civic duty to make it work. Instead we abdicated.

It hasn’t really felt like a democracy to me, ever. First it was slavery, then since the Civil War they’ve been screaming and complaining about anything done for anyone who isn’t a rich, white, landowning man, and they’re still pissed about women voting. It was a rigged system, just like England.

If more people grew past the emotional age of a preteen and stopped idolizing politicians and celebrities it would sure help.
