honestly dude take me back to the aughts where you could pick up a ps2 or GameCube title and could at least halfway guarantee that it was mildly interesting and enjoyable because the emphasis on art direction was at an all time high in that age

i don't expand my realm of gaming often enough but titles like stardew valley and unpacking give me hope that the community will continue to stay in line with the basics of good gaming - it's gameplay and art direction. it's not mo cap and strictly realism. you have to finesse it if so. see: bg3.
bg3 was such a good example of finesse even though it obviously used things that make it a triple A title. we need more of this effort. i am also biased but escapism is another thing that gets lost in titles sometimes where art direction and stylization can help with this tremendously.
