I don't know, I see this weird take that films like Bloodlines or even Saw X got critical praise by "pandering to the mainstream" which is an argument that only works if you didn't bother to watch either movie.

I can only really speak from the perspective of a Saw fan because I never really enjoyed FD all that much before Bloodlines, but I didn't see critics enjoying Saw X as a detriment. If anything, it got me very curious cuz the films never did that well with critics. And lo and behold, it was very good

I would not call Saw X an attempt to appeal to the mainstream because quite frankly, I think we already got that attempt with the previous two films, Jigsaw and Spiral. If anything, I thought Saw X got right back to the gory soap opera-level shlock that I enjoyed from the older Saw films.
