To be fair, there are adult autistics that cannot mask it. It's not just comparing adults to children with autism. It's truly a spectrum. My youngest brother will be 30 soon and you will know from across a room he is a diagnosed autistic person. He is in an adults with autism event group, no masks.
My middle brother and myself are undiagnosed but exhibit various neurodivergent characteristics. Because of the extent of my youngest brothers autism it was not till we were adults and the understanding of autism grew that we even considered we might fall under the same umbrella.
