Basically I just hate how war-hawkish all sides have become around this issue. I believe Ukrainians, like any other occupied nation, have a legal right to resist said occupation. What I’m uneasy about, though, is how much western imperialists have piggybacked off of Ukrainians’ genuine struggles…

I’m tired of acting like any critique of US imperialism in general, but specifically in Eastern Europe, somehow automatically undermines Ukrainian sovereignty, much like how critiques of the Iranian regime’s involvement in 🇵🇸 shouldn’t undermine Palestinian sovereignty or their liberation struggle.

Then again, whether or not there’s concrete evidence from third party sources of the 🇺🇸 taking advantage of 🇺🇦 this way, it wouldn’t be a unique case, as the US & CIA have a long history of fomenting political turmoil in places like 🇮🇷, 🇨🇩, various LatAm countries, etc.

Ultimately I don’t want to give leeway to actual 🇷🇺 trolls and tankies who deny real 🇷🇺 war crimes (not just in 🇺🇦 but other places like Syria). But I also wish more western liberals would look in the mirror and see that they’re also “tankies” per se, just in favor of unmitigated 🇺🇸 military action.

This might give you a good primer on recent history. The super short version is the US & EU did a coup in 2014 that installed fascist leaders after ousting the pro Rus govt. Much of the leadership is still far right. IMO there is no good side except the working class in Ukraine who's stuck there.

Thank you. I keep seeing ppl claiming that 🇺🇦 is a democracy, and compared to 🇷🇺, sure, but whether or not they are, they don’t deserve to be invaded. Same goes for 🇵🇸 , 🇸🇾, 🇨🇩, other occupied places. I feel like there’s this respectability politics when it comes to 🇺🇦 that isn’t there in other conflicts.

Most definitely, the difference is the West supports the fascist government so they can be exploited. Most recently mineral mining rights that trmp is demanding. Also mostly white pop. There others are not.

Oh I knew that. Sounds about white. I just remember back in 2022 when the invasion began, people kept talking about how “unusual” it was to see people w/ blond hair and blue eyes fleeing war zones. Even showing footage of Ahed Tamimi and saying she was a Ukrainian girl fighting Russian troops 🤦🏻‍♂️
