TIL, while emails are sent with SMTP, a copy is stored for convenience in a “sent” directory on IMAP server. That makes sense!

I hands-on did those back in the days :)
there is also incoming, active, bounce, and deferred (among other) folders.
Boring but fascinating technology :)

I gotta read more, sounds interesting!
I’m bouncing the idea if I should self-host IMAP. Not SMTP intentionally because of unsolvable delivery issues even the most paranoid report.
Email may be plaintext, but it doesn’t mean my mailbox should be readable to my mail provider at rest at all times.
