Congrats on finishing Bester’s book. I actually liked elements of The Demolished Man, having sort of a Minority Report aspect about it, but can understand the difficulty of working through it. Good luck on the rest of the Hugo journey!
I can see why it was considered an important novel. I think I just found the romantic relationship to be sort of - creepy. As someone said to me- Bester imagined a lot but he never imagined feminism.
You got to let that book go. If it is keeping you from other books that you would enjoy, close it and move on. You can tell yourself that one day you will finish it, but first you will indulge in a bookish treat that will take you away to a place you want to be.
No shame in a dnf. Id rather spend the time on a book that I enjoy. Its not going anywhere, so you can pick it back up at anytime if your soul feels incomplete.
I'd give up. It took me awhile to read the last Cormorant Strike book by JK . It was difficult to take all the things going on in the book. But I did think it was worth it. But that book..I'd move on.
