I haven't watched the show yet but Arcane should have been a stand-alone product since it diverges so much from re original lore. But Riot decided to make it canon so...

Yeah! I think executives saw how popular was Arcane and decided to make Arcane canon. I also read that Arcane narrative team doesn't care if the story and ideas don't a-line with Leagues lore.
